IT and SCADA services for ongoing operations

Reliable communication for PV and wind energy plants, BESS and substations

For photovoltaic and wind energy plants, BESS and substations to communicate reliably during operation, continuous maintenance and regular checks of the plant IT are essential. Firmware versions, configurations and interfaces are constantly changing – and with them the requirements for security, stability and cyber security.

With our IT and SCADA services, we support you in keeping plant communication stable and secure – whether stand-alone or as a co-location project.

Our Services overview

We advise you on all IT and network security topics, according to your plant setup.

greenCARE – firmware updates & network security

With greenCARE, we ensure the backup, updating and protection of your plant’s IT and network infrastructure.

This minimizes security vulnerabilities early on and creates the foundation for rapid and structured recovery in the event of a fault. Secure remote access via the greentech VPN service “greenACCESS” is required for the implementation of remote services.

Core services:

  • Network configuration archiving & backups: Backup of relevant network configurations and encrypted storage on greentech servers
  • Firmware updates: Proactive review and installation of new firmware versions; release after laboratory testing for security and functionality
  • Network monitoring: Optional monitoring of key parameters of routers, firewalls and switches including fault notifications
  • Various service packages with annual basic services and (depending on the package) additional services according to individual requirements.

Power plant IT security audit

The Power plant IT security audit creates transparency about the status of your communication infrastructure.

Vulnerabilities and risks become visible and can be addressed in a targeted manner.

Core services:

  • Analysis of networking, internet connectivity and access permissions
  • Presentation as a single-line diagram including names/locations of end devices
  • Derivation of recommendations for the fastest possible remediation

Additional consulting services

With our consulting services for SCADA, plant IT and cyber security, we support you additionally and individually on selected topics related to plant communication and IT security – as needed.

Possible services:

  • Individually tailored security concepts
  • Creation/revision of documentation and network plans
  • Support for unplanned outages (remote diagnosis, in-depth analysis, troubleshooting)
  • Consulting and implementation of suitable software solutions
  • Individual training on power plant IT and IT security

When does accompanying IT and SCADA service support make sense?

When you want to reduce security risks during operations

During ongoing operations, new risks arise from updates, new interfaces and changed access. Accompanying service helps to identify and close vulnerabilities early – and to keep your plant IT structurally up to date.

When there is no clear responsibility for updates and IT security

During ongoing operations, firmware and security updates are often neglected because responsibilities and processes are not clearly defined. Accompanying service take over the regular review and implementation in a structured manner – including preliminary checks and tests, so that updates are carried out in a controlled manner.

When you need to be operational again quickly after a fault

Especially in the case of communication or network problems, a structured approach is essential. Backups, documentation and monitoring create the basis for narrowing down causes more quickly and accelerating recovery.

When you need transparency about your communication infrastructure

With evolved plant structures, there is often no clear overview of networking, access and end devices. An IT security audit creates a reliable inventory, makes vulnerabilities visible and provides concrete recommendations for remediation.

When multiple parties access the plant (EPC, O&M, direct marketer, grid operator)

Many interfaces increase complexity and attack surface. Clearly regulated, secure remote access and defined permissions help to structure responsibilities and access paths cleanly.

When you modernize or expand existing plants (PV, BESS, substation / co-location)

During expansions, data flows, network topology and requirements for monitoring/control change. An operational service supports the stable and secure further development of plant communication.

When regulatory requirements and security standards become more relevant

Whether CI proximity, internal compliance or requirements from insurers/investors: security topics are increasingly subject to verification and documentation requirements during operations. An audit and ongoing services help to keep the status traceable.

4 Good Reasons for SCADA and IT services from greentech

Transparency instead of black box

We create an overview of status, anomalies and potential risks in SCADA and plant IT – so you can prioritize and act with confidence.

Updates & Security monitored for you

As your extended arm, we take over the recurring review and implementation of relevant firmware and security updates. This keeps the plant IT up to date without you having to actively manage it – and your team can focus on day-to-day operations.

Renewables focus instead of off-the-shelf IT

We specialize in SCADA and plant IT in PV, WIND, BESS and grid infrastructure projects – and know the typical requirements and risks of these system landscapes.

Continuous support throughout the plant lifecycle

As an accompanying IT and SCADA service, we build context about your plant and advise you as needed and individually – even when requirements, components or operating models change over time.

Developing a new project or modernising your existing plant?

If you want to set up, modernize or adapt your SCADA and IT infrastructure as part of revamping, repowering or hybridisation measures, we are happy to support you with the conecpt and implementation. Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions about secure operations, updates, system monitoring and IT security.

What does IT and SCADA service mean during ongoing operations?

IT and SCADA Service supports operators in operating the SCADA environment and plant IT in a stable, secure and traceable manner in everyday operations. Typical components include system monitoring, updates, backups and support for faults and IT security issues.

For which plant types is the service suitable?

The service is suitable for photovoltaic and wind energy plants, battery storage systems (BESS) and substations (UW) – both as standalone plants and in co-location configurations.

What is greenCARE – and what is typically included?

greenCARE is an accompanying service for the ongoing operation of your plant IT and network infrastructure for PV and wind energy plants, battery storage systems (BESS) and substations (UW). The goal is to keep systems up to date and secure and to support rapid, structured recovery in the event of a fault. Typically, greenCARE includes network configuration archiving and backups (including encrypted storage), proactive review and implementation of relevant firmware and security updates with release after laboratory testing, and system monitoring of central components such as routers, firewalls and switches including notification in the event of a fault. Depending on requirements, greenCARE is available in different service packages.

Do I need secure remote access for IT and SCADA Service?

For remote services, secure remote access via the greentech VPN service greenACCESS is required.

What does a power plant IT security audit specifically provide?

An audit creates transparency about networking, internet connectivity and access permissions. Results are prepared, among other things, as a single-line diagram and supplemented with concrete recommendations for remediation.

Can't field service handle IT and SCADA service during inspections?

Many tasks related to SCADA, plant IT and network components require plant-specific IT and security know-how as well as a structured approach (e.g., for firmware updates, backup/restore concepts, permissions or the evaluation of network architectures). Accompanying IT and SCADA service support ensures that these topics are not handled “on the side,” but are processed professionally, traceably and on a recurring basis.

Are there fixed response times or SLAs?

Specific response times and Service Level Agreement (SLA) models are typically agreed on a project or portfolio basis. This allows the scope to be defined according to plant criticality, operating model and interfaces.

How does the collaboration typically work?

At the beginning, the system landscape, access and objectives are coordinated. Thereafter, support is provided as a recurring service – e.g., with regular reviews/updates, system monitoring and support for specific incidents or changes.

Is cyber security only relevant for Critical Infrastructure (CI) plants?

No. Even smaller plants are potentially vulnerable through networking and remote access. Cyber security is therefore a relevant operational topic regardless of formal thresholds.

Does greentech also support new developments or modernisation of SCADA and IT infrastructure?

Yes. If you want to set up, modernise or adapt your SCADA and IT infrastructure as part of revamping or repowering measures, we also support you with conecpts and implementation.
