From PV planning to implementation-ready co-location

greentech develops your PV project into a co-location with BESS. Our co-location project development starts where the target design for the battery storage has been determined – for example, based on a potential analysis or comparable preliminary work. In doing so, we manage the entire process – from planning law, permits, and land securing to required expert reports, grid connection, and technical implementation preparation. In the end, you receive an individually tailored, ready-to-build co-location project that you can hand over to an EPC for implementation.

When does Co-Location Project Development as a Service make sense?

Project Development as a Service is aimed at PV projects that are to be further developed for co-location with a battery storage system. The prerequisite is that a specific PV starting situation already exists – for example, a fully planned PV system, one under construction, or one already in operation.

If you want to expand your PV project with BESS

You would like to develop a co-location project from an existing or planned PV project. We take over the further project development and manage the necessary steps until it is ready for implementation.

If the appropriate BESS variant is already fundamentally defined

A target image is required for the project development of the co-location: Which storage solution should be integrated into the PV project and what role should it play in the project? This target image can come from a greentech potential analysis, an external analysis, or an existing project decision. If no reliable target image is yet available, a co-location potential analysis may be useful beforehand. Once the preferred variant has been determined, we develop it further to ready-to-build in the next step.

If your internal project development lacks capacity or BESS know-how

Expanding a PV project to include BESS affects permits, grid connection, land, expert reports, technology, and stakeholder management. If internal resources or specific experience are lacking, we take over the structured further development as an external project development partner.

If you need a central partner for management

Co-location projects have many interfaces: authorities, grid operators, owners, experts, planners, and subsequent implementation partners. greentech brings these topics together in a clear project structure – so that decisions can be made quickly, responsibilities are clearly clarified, and the next steps can be reliably implemented.

If the project is to be developed to ready-to-build status

The goal is an implementation-ready co-location development. The result is a coordinated project consisting of PV and BESS that brings together technical, permitting, grid-related, and economic requirements and can be used as a basis for tendering, awarding, and implementation by an EPC.

Components of Project Development as a Service for co-location with BESS

greentech leads the selected co-location variant structured to implementation readiness. To this end, we coordinate the relevant work packages, manage the interfaces between those involved, and create a reliable project status for tendering, awarding, and EPC implementation.

Project Management and Stakeholder Management

greentech takes over the central coordination of the development process and manages coordination with authorities, grid operators, owners, experts, planners, and other service providers. In this way, decisions, documents, and next steps come together in a clear project structure.

Planning Law and Permitting Strategy

We lead the permitting path derived in the potential analysis into implementation. Depending on the project status, we coordinate, for example, preliminary building inquiries, building applications, adjustments to existing planning documents, or steps within the framework of urban land-use planning.

Land Securing, Leasing, and Project-Related Contracts

We coordinate the necessary adjustments and clarifications regarding land, leasing, and project-related contracts, insofar as they are necessary for the integration of the battery storage system. This includes coordination with owners, contractual partners, and other parties involved (no legal advice).

Expert Reports, Mapping, and Evidence

If additional expert reports, mapping, or evidence are required for the BESS expansion, greentech manages their commissioning, coordination, and integration into the project documents. Depending on the location, this may concern noise, fire protection, soil, water, environment, or visibility.

co-location-route-securing-nature

Grid Connection and Route Securing

We implement the grid-side steps identified from the potential analysis for the integration of the BESS. Depending on the project, this includes the extended grid application, coordination with the grid operator, technical grid connection planning, route design, and the preparation of the required documents.

co-location-technical-implementation

Technical Implementation Preparation

greentech transfers the target system into an implementation-ready technical project basis. This includes, for example, layout and occupancy planning, technical interfaces between PV, BESS, and grid connection, as well as design review or the preparation of documents for tendering and EPC handover where applicable.

Marketing and Operational Perspective

The subsequent operational and marketing logic must match the technical and grid-side design. Therefore, we take the intended use of the BESS into account in the development process and coordinate relevant requirements early on with planning, grid connection, and implementation preparation.

White Paper

Integrating BESS – but how?

How does a ground-mounted PV system – in planning, realization, or operation – become a permittable, implementation-ready, and economically viable co-location project with BESS? This overview outlines the typical procedural logic – from potential assessment to the derivation of a reliable basis for decision-making and the development of the selected target variant to ready-to-build status.

360° system perspective on the co-location project

Co-location arises at the interface of project development, technology, grid, and subsequent implementation. greentech considers these topics in an integrated manner – from permitting and land securing to PV/BESS engineering, grid connection and integration, as well as SCADA solutions, through to ready-to-build status and EPC handover.

A central partner for many interfaces

Authorities, grid operators, owners, experts, planners, and subsequent EPC partners must be properly coordinated. greentech takes over this management and ensures that responsibilities, decisions, and next steps remain clear.

Clear structure, individually tailored to your project

Co-location projects need a reliable development logic – but no off-the-shelf solution. greentech combines a clearly managed process with the individual results from potential analysis or comparable preliminary work. In this way, the selected BESS variant is developed to ready-to-build status in line with the location, grid situation, permitting path, and project goal.

Planning security until ready-to-build status

The goal is a project status that is not only conceptually convincing but can also be transferred into implementation. greentech further develops the selected co-location variant so that tendering, awarding, and EPC implementation can be based on a reliable foundation.

Fast entry based on preliminary work already completed

If the project status, target variant, and open points are already available, project development can start directly on a reliable basis. greentech uses the existing preliminary work, for example from the potential analysis, specifies the next steps, and transfers the identified work packages into a clear roadmap to ready-to-build.

FAQ: Project Development as a Service

Frequently asked questions about co-location project development and integration of BESS into existing PV systems

What does Project Development as a Service mean?

Project Development as a Service means that greentech takes over the further development of an existing PV project into a co-location with BESS. The goal is an implementation-ready project status that can be used as a basis for tendering, awarding, and EPC implementation.

For which projects is Project Development as a Service suitable?

The service is suitable for PV projects that are to be expanded to include a battery storage system. The prerequisite is a specific PV starting situation – for example, a fully planned PV system, one under construction, or one already in operation.

Does the target design for the battery storage already have to be determined?

A reliable target design should be available for project development. This can come from a co-location potential analysis by greentech or from comparable preliminary work. If no target design is yet available, the potential analysis is the sensible first step.

What is the difference to the co-location potential analysis?

The potential analysis evaluates which BESS variant makes sense technically, grid-wise, permitting-wise, and economically. Project Development as a Service starts after that: The selected variant is further developed until it is ready for implementation.

Which services does greentech provide in project development?

greentech coordinates the relevant work packages until ready-to-build. Depending on the project, these include project management, permitting, land securing, expert reports, grid connection (planning), route, technical implementation preparation, and preparation for EPC handover.

Does greentech also handle coordination with authorities and grid operators?

Yes. greentech manages coordination with the relevant parties involved, including authorities, grid operators, owners, experts, planners, and other service providers. We identify technical clarification points that are relevant for project development – for example, regarding land, leasing, or usage rights. However, legal review, advice, and contract drafting are carried out independently by the customer’s legal advisors and are not part of our offer.

What does ready-to-build mean for a co-location project?

Ready-to-build means that a co-location project is developed to the point where the next phase – tendering, EPC commissioning, and implementation – can start on a reliable basis. This includes, in particular, the permitting requirements, a coordinated grid connection and route solution, secured land and usage bases, and technical planning that describes the PV system and battery storage as an implementable overall system. Which documents and evidence are required in a specific case depends on the project status. Therefore, at the beginning, we agree together with the customer which RTB criteria apply to the respective project.

Is the EPC or plant construction part of the service?

No. Project Development as a Service ends with implementation-ready development and preparation for EPC handover. The subsequent construction of the plant takes place via EPC or plant construction as a separate service.

Can the project be handed over to an external EPC after development?

Yes. The explicit goal of the service is to create a reliable project basis for tendering, awarding, and EPC implementation. Implementation can then be carried out by greentech or another EPC partner.

Does greentech also have to have carried out the previous potential analysis?

Not necessarily. If a reliable target design and the relevant project bases are already available, greentech can build on them. If the potential analysis was created by greentech, a particularly fast entry is possible because the project status, target variant, and open points are already known.
