Large-scale battery storage project development by greentech gathers momentum

Feb 4, 2025

Hamburg, 4th February 2025 – Hamburg-based solar and storage specialist greentech was recently able to obtain the first planning decisions for two 20 MW battery storage systems thanks to broad approval from local councils in the west of Schleswig-Holstein. Preparations are underway for further projects, primarily in northern and eastern Germany.

“The success of our BESS team reflects the great importance and acceptance of the development of battery storage projects as a pillar of the energy transition and security of supply. We are pleased about the cooperative collaboration with municipalities throughout Germany and are positive about these and other projects in our pipeline,” says Moritz von Daniels, Head of Project Development BESS at greentech.

The company is now starting the urban land-use planning for the two projects in Süderdeich and Hanerau-Hademarschen, which are located directly next to the local substations. Realisation is planned for early 2027.

“The increasing expansion of renewable energies can only be achieved with appropriate battery storage systems. We are therefore focussing strongly on this business area and are continuously expanding the team. At the same time, we are committed to shaping the regulatory framework for the realisation of such projects in a practical way,” says greentech CEO Ingo Rehmann. In addition to stand-alone solutions, the company also focusses on co-location options in PV project development and also offers many engineering services for battery storage systems.
